Press reports from India state that Mahindra Forgings Ltd. has started production on a 6,300-ton press. The company operates seven other presses rated at 1,000 to 5,000 tons at its plant in Chakan, India. The company is starting up two 4,000-ton presses later this year.

At the beginning of 2007, Mahindra finalized the near total acquisition of Schoneweiss & Co. GmbH., a German forger. The 140-year-old, family-owned German company specialized in suspension, power train, and engine parts, and is said to be one of the top five axle beam manufacturers in the world.

Previously, Mahindra Forgings acquired Stokes Forgings (UK), and Jeco Holding AG (Germany).

Mahindra Forgings was established as a business unit of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd when the parent company acquired Amforge, a forging company in Chakan, India, in 2006.
