“E-mobility” developer REE Automotive and the will co-develop and manufacture an exclusive wheel design and chassis for corner modules and electric vehicles.

Iochpe-Maxion – a manufacturer of automotive and commercial vehicle wheels and automotive structural components, including forged aluminum wheels – is in partnership with REE Automotive (REE) to co-develop and manufacture an exclusive wheel design and chassis solution for REE’s corner modules and electric vehicle platform. The “REEcorner” integrates all drivetrain, powertrain, suspension and steering components into the arch of the wheel, making possible a flat, modular electric chassis, called “the REEboard.”

This platform frees vehicle designers to develop EV and autonomous vehicles without structural limitations, according to REE.

Maxion’s wheel and chassis design and materials experience as part of system integration process is expected to reduce the weight of REE’s electric vehicle platform, and to provide more free space for alternative propulsion sources.

“Partnering with Maxion was the clear choice for us given its advanced technical capabilities and global presence,” stated Tali Miller Levin, vice president, Corporate Development, REE.

“Our work with REE to innovate a new type of wheel and chassis creates the opportunity to further diversify both our product portfolio and customer base,” explained said Dr. Saul Reichman, head of Maxion Advanced Technologies and Maxion Wheels’ global director, Innovation & Corporate Venturing. ”Since the inauguration last year of Maxion Advanced Technologies, an innovation initiative searching for adjacent and disruptive automotive-related new business opportunities, our team has been actively seeking innovative endeavors where we can apply our wheel and chassis expertise to new mobility EV applications.”
