Critical parts for high-bypass turbofan engines “Solidifies strategic relationship”

Forging groupFirth Rixson Ltd. reported it has a new long-term supply agreement with Rolls-Royce Plc for seamless rolled rings, running from 2015 to 2022. It estimated the contract’s worth at $500 million, for the supply of critical aircraft engine components.

Firth Rixson Ltd. produces seamless rings and closed-die forgings at 12 plants in North America, the U.K., Europe, and China, mainly for aerospace applications.

The new agreement concerns components for various Rolls-Royce current and pending engine programs, including the Trent XWB, 1000-10 and 900 EP.  The Trent XWB and other models are variants of Rolls-Royce’s high-bypass turbofan engines, notably supplied to Airbus for the A350 and Boeing for is 787 Dreamliner, and other commercial aircraft programs

The new deal was announced at the Rolls-Royce engine manufacturing plant in Derby, England, and included Rolls’ executive vice president Andy Greasley and David Mortimer, CEO of Firth Rixson.

"The agreement solidifies the strategic relationship that we have with Rolls-Royce and reflects the continual support and strength that Firth Rixson show for Rolls-Royce, in light of the growing demand for aircraft engine production," according to David Mortimer.

The forger and aircraft engine builder already maintain a long-term supply agreement for closed-die forgings. That pact was announced in 2011.
