IFA Buys Doncasters Precision Forge

Sheffield, England, site will be "a one-stop-shop" with open-die and closed-die forging, ring rolling, hammer forging, and rotary forging

Independent Forgings & Alloys Ltd. in Sheffield, England, is buying the neighboring Doncasters Precision Forge operations from the Doncasters Group, and will rebrand it as IFA Precision Forge. Currently, IFA currently manufactures high-integrity, open-die forgings for OEMs and Tier 1 suppliers in aerospace, nuclear, power-generation, marine, and oil-and gas-markets.

The value of the acquisition was not reported.

IFA was established in 2001 from the former Doncasters open-die forging business. Adding Doncasters Precision Forge will triple the scale of the Sheffield operations to 680,000 sq.ft., and establish "a one-stop-shop" with open-die and closed-die forging, ring rolling, hammer forging, and rotary forging at a single site.

Doncasters Group has been cutting costs and selling assets over the past two years. Recently it sold the forging business in Blaenavon, England, and related fabrications business in Sheffield (Doncasters’ Bramah) to Arlington Capital Partners, which has rebranded them as Radius Aerospace UK Ltd.

Doncasters reported it implemented a new operating model focused on precision castings and superalloys, with parallel organizations in the U.S. and Europe. "This structure will create a more agile and efficient operational organization, alongside devolved commercial responsibility," it stated.

The group continues to operate Doncasters Storms Forge in Springfield, MA, a closed-die forging operation for titanium, stainless steel, and nickel-alloy parts supplied to aerospace, power generation, oil-and-gas, and industrial markets.
